Ingredients
Scale
Cinnamon Roll Dough:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup fine sugar
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 (.25) package Active Dry Yeast
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
Roll Filling:
- 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter melted for greasing pans
- 12 tablespoons of unsalted butter melted for filling
- 2/3 cups of sugar
- 4 tablespoons of cinnamon
For Frosting:
- 1 cup of sifted powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon of quality vanilla
- 2 tablespoons of whole milk
- 1 taablespoon of unsalted butter melted
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3 tablespoons of a strong coffee (Cafe Bustelo)
Instructions
Make Dough:
- Combine milk, sugar, and vegetable oil into a heavy-bottom saucepan and heat until the sugar is dissolved. Using an instant-read thermometer ensures milk registers between 90-100° F.
- Sprinkle the yeast packet over the top of the milk and set aside for approximately 5 minutes.
- Add four cups of flour, stirring until incorporated, and place in a warm location to rise.
- Combine the remaining 1/2 cup of flour, salt, and baking powder and set aside again to rise or place in the refrigerator overnight.
Cinnamon Rolls:
- Grease 3 (9-inch) pans with the butter and set aside.
- Flour a counter and roll out half the dough to form a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Brush the melted butter on top of the dough.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar on top of the butter.
- Starting closest to you, begin rolling the dough into a long roll and pinch the ends to ensure the filling stays inside the roll.
- With a sharp knife, cut 1-inch rounds and place the cut side down inside the butter-greased pans.
- Cover rolls with a towel and place in a warm spot to rise.
- Place in at 375° F for 15 minutes until slightly browned.
Frosting:
- Using a whisk, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth and shiny. The frosting should be slightly thick. Using the end of the whisk, drizzle the frosting over the tops of the rolls and serve warm.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container. Rolls can be gently heated for that fresh out of the oven taste.
