Description

Transform this doughy canvas into a focaccia bread masterpiece.  It has a crunchy exterior and a soft, airy center.  The dough must be refrigerated for one day before decorating, but it is worth the wait.

Ingredients

Scale

4 Cups All-Purpose Flour or Bread Flour

2 Teaspoons Salt

2 Cups Lukewarm Water

2 Teaspoons Instant Yeast

1/4 cup Olive Oil

2 Teaspoons Flakey Salt Such as Maldon for Finishing

Various Olives, Veggies, and Herbs for Decorating

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by mixing the flour, yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Add the lukewarm water and mix until a sticky ball forms.
  2.   Pour half of the oil on top of the dough ball and knead well, reserving the rest for greasing the bowl. Refrigerate the dough overnight.
  3. Line two half-pan sheets or one  9×13 pan with parchment paper.
  4. Split the dough according to the pans you are using. Press the dough to the edges of the pan, gently making dimples in the dough with your fingertips. Allow the dough to rise again.
  5. Before placing decorations on the dough, sprinkle lightly with olive oil and sea salt.
  6. Envision what your creation will look like and begin to decorate.
  7. Place pan(s) in the oven and bake for 25-30.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before cutting and enjoy.
