Description

Apples stuffed with buttery sweet oats with nutmeg hints and drizzled with a homemade salted caramel sauce. A scrumptious dessert that captures the flavors of fall wrapped in nature’s package.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Gala or Honeycrisp apples

CRUMBLE:

  • 1/3 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of oats
  • 1/4 cup of molasses
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons of softened butter

Liquid for around apples:  1/2 cup of apple cider

SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375•.
  2. Mix brown sugar, oats, molasses, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  3. Using a fork, cut in butter until the mixture resembles a crumble.
  4. Slice 1/2 inch off the top of the apple and remove the center core and any seeds.
  5. Place apples in a small baking dish, cut side up.
  6. Insert the crumble mixture into each apple, filling the apple to the very top.
  7. Pour the apple cider around the base of the apples to help them steam.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven until the apples are soft. Depending on the apple you are using, this could take 35-45 minutes. Check apples by gently piercing them with a knife for a softness check.
  9. While the apples are baking, make the salted caramel sauce by placing all ingredients except vanilla in a small saucepan on low heat. Observing and string constantly, bring to a boil and remove from heat.
  10. Add vanilla and pour into a jar with a lid.
  11. Top apples with a spoonful of salted caramel or a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

Are apples not cooking as fast as you would like? Consider placing foil on top to speed up the process.
